School Parent Governor Elections

Harrison Primary School has always aimed for a partnership with parents which undoubtedly brings great benefits to our children. One of the most significant ways you can help in promoting this aim is to volunteer to be a parent governor.

You may be aware that we have vacancies for two parent governors which we need to fill as soon as possible. Thank you to those parents who have already expressed an interest; we are now in a position to start the formal recruitment process.

To remind you, the governing body's main tasks are:

  • to ensure that the school has a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • to hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and
  • to oversee the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Parent governors are welcomed as valued members of the team and play a vital role in ensuring the governing body is aware of the views of parents and the local community.

In looking to fill this vacancy the governors of the school have identified the following skills, experience and attributes that they feel would help strengthen the governing body:

  • communications and marketing
  • financial management
  • human relations and personnel management

Training and support will be available to help parents develop into the role; this will include in-house mentoring and support as well as access to external governor training.

If you would like to apply to be a governor, please complete the application form attached and email it by 4pm on Friday 25th November 2022 to the email address below:

The guidelines giving full details about how vacancies are filled can be found on the school’s website. You should also look at the information for prospective governors on the link below:

If more than two applications are received, we will hold an electronic election via Survey Monkey whereby all parents will be invited to vote. Parents who cannot access Survey Monkey will be able to take part by post. In this instance voting would take place between 29th November and 13th December 2022 with the result announced to parents on Thursday 15th December 2022.

Please note that for the protection of children all governor appointments are subject to an identity check. If you need further information please do not hesitate to get in touch using the email address above.
