Rights Respecting School Council
We are proud to be a ‘Rights Respecting School’ and achieved our RRSA ‘Level 2' in 2010.
The Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) recognises achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) at the heart of a school’s planning, policies, practice and ethos. A rights-respecting school not only teaches about children’s rights but also models rights and respect in all its relationships: between teachers / adults and pupils, between adults and between pupils. Article 12 of the UNCRC says that children and young people should have a say in decisions that affect their lives.
We are the ‘Rights Respecting School Council’. We meet every two weeks to make sure that children’s rights are respected in our school. We are also the voice of the school and work closely with staff and pupils to make our school a better place! We represent our classes. We take responsibility for ourselves and others seriously and discuss ideas.
All children in years 1 - 6 took part in a democratic vote to elect our School Council:
Year 1 – Rex, Phoebe and Maria
Year 2 – Lucy, Tobias and Sofia
Year 3 – Ruby, Joseph and Lucy
Year 4 – Ruby, Felicity and Myalei
Year 5 – Justin, Beatrice and Isla
Year 6 – Rosie, Sophie and Bella

In the past, we have improved playground facilities, promoted Fairtrade, created a Playground Charter, purchased resources for the playground, helped at school events and were involved in appointing our new Head teacher.
Our new ‘School Council ’ books will enable council members to present any suggestions or requests that their class raise in our future meetings.
