  • Harrison Headlines- Friday 13th January 2023

    Fri 13 Jan 2023

Exciting news - the builders are back at Harrison! This week work on our new canopy has begun at the library end of Christopher's Garden (one of the internal quads).

At Harrison we place a great deal of importance on the positive two-way relationship between good physical health and good mental wellbeing, and the benefits to mental wellbeing of physical exercise and time spent outdoors

Our aim is to continue to improve Harrison's physical environment so that we have outdoor learning, teaching and play spaces that are protected from the weather and can be used all year round. The enhancement of Christopher's Garden is our latest project.
Our personal, social and health education (PSHE) curriculum supports children to develop effective relationships, assume greater personal responsibility, make an active contribution to their community and manage personal safety. Learning and playing together provides excellent opportunities for children to learn increasing independence, physical health, emotional and social awareness. Creating an additional outdoor learning space will enhance these opportunities.

We look forward to sharing photos next week...

    School Council news:

The school council have chosen the Fareham Lions Club as one of their charities to support this year by collecting plastic milk bottle tops.

There is a large green wheelie bin by the main reception entrance for donations. We have been asked that all bottle top donations be:

    • Clean
    • Colour separated
    • Each colour to be in a separate clear bag

Every 50kg of tops will be donated to support a charity such as Naomi house, Rowan’s Hospice or Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

  • School Parent Governor Elections

    Fri 11 Nov 2022

Harrison Primary School has always aimed for a partnership with parents which undoubtedly brings great benefits to our children. One of the most significant ways you can help in promoting this aim is to volunteer to be a parent governor.

You may be aware that we have vacancies for two parent governors which we need to fill as soon as possible. Thank you to those parents who have already expressed an interest; we are now in a position to start the formal recruitment process.

To remind you, the governing body's main tasks are:

    • to ensure that the school has a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction
    • to hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and
    • to oversee the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Parent governors are welcomed as valued members of the team and play a vital role in ensuring the governing body is aware of the views of parents and the local community.

In looking to fill this vacancy the governors of the school have identified the following skills, experience and attributes that they feel would help strengthen the governing body:

    • communications and marketing
    • financial management
    • human relations and personnel management

Training and support will be available to help parents develop into the role; this will include in-house mentoring and support as well as access to external governor training.

If you would like to apply to be a governor, please complete the application form attached and email it by 4pm on Friday 25th November 2022 to the email address below:

    parentgovernorelection@harrisonprimaryschool.co.uk

The guidelines giving full details about how vacancies are filled can be found on the school’s website. You should also look at the information for prospective governors on the link below:

What governors do | Hampshire County Council (hants.gov.uk)

If more than two applications are received, we will hold an electronic election via Survey Monkey whereby all parents will be invited to vote. Parents who cannot access Survey Monkey will be able to take part by post. In this instance voting would take place between 29th November and 13th December 2022 with the result announced to parents on Thursday 15th December 2022.

Please note that for the protection of children all governor appointments are subject to an identity check. If you need further information please do not hesitate to get in touch using the email address above.

  • Rotary Shoe Box Christmas Appeal

    Thu 20 Oct 2022

We would like to support this annual scheme which sends shoeboxes containing toys and gifts to disadvantaged children in foreign countries. The focus this year is sending Christmas gifts to Ukrainian children who have been displaced by the current conflict.

A leaflet will be sent home with detailed information and is also attached to this email.

Please note flat packed boxes can be provided, please request from the school office either by calling in or by emailing adminoffice@harrison.hants.sch.uk

You may still fill your own shoebox using the label provided on the leaflet.

Please note that £2 is required for postage/carriage costs and must be attached to the shoebox. No change can be given so please ensure the correct money is used.

Due to difficulty with storage in school, please can we ask that shoeboxes are not brought in to school before Friday 4th November.

Many thanks in advance for your support.

  • E-Consent for Flu Vaccinations

    Wed 21 Sep 2022

    To all Parent/Guardians

Your child’s annual flu vaccination is now due

This vaccination is recommended to help protect your child against the flu virus. Flu can be an unpleasant illness and can cause serious complications.

Vaccinating your child will also help protect more vulnerable family members and friends by preventing the spread of flu. There may be an increase in flu levels this coming winter following low levels in the past 2 years as a result of COVID-19 restrictions.

We are due to visit your child’s school on Tuesday 18th October

The unique code for your child’s school is SH115990 Submit your form by 10am Friday 14th October to ensure your child receives their vaccination. If you experience any problems accessing the form, telephone 0300 0030323 and the team will be happy to help.

Click on the following link to access the online consent form:
    https://www.southernhealthimmunisations.co.uk/forms/flu

If you decide you do not wish your child to receive the vaccine against flu, please submit the consent form giving the reason. This will help us plan and enable us to update your child’s immunisation record.

The vaccination is free and is a quick, simple and painless spray up the nose. Even if your child had the vaccine last year, the type of flu can vary each winter, so it is recommended to have it again this year or they will not be protected. For the 2022-23 season the programme is being offered to all children in Year R– Year 9. Children with Complex needs in special schools will be offered the vaccine up to the age of 18.

    For further information about the vaccination programme and details about the small number of children for whom the nasal vaccine is not appropriate see: www.nhs.uk/child-flu;

Since the programme was introduced, most children offered the vaccine in schools have had the immunisation.

If your child becomes wheezy, has a bad attack of asthma, or has started oral steroids for their asthma after you return this form, please contact your local Immunisation Team.

    Yours faithfully,

    School Immunisation Service
